I have worked with clients who have struggled with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and body weight issues as well as clients who are struggling with regulating their emotions and the negative impact this has had on their life. During the last six years that I have worked with children and adolescents, I have learned that building a healthy therapeutic relationship is extremely important to their growing and learning process. I encourage each of my clients to find their inner voice and guide them on how to use this voice in advocating for themselves. The first step to change is seeking help.
I commend all of my clients and their families for being able to recognize the need for help and how they are already taking the first steps toward positive change. I come from a systems background, which merely highlights the many different aspects of one’s life that at times impacts their life, which can be negative and positive. With my clients I feel that it is important to talk about the past and look at patterns of behavior which may or may not be repeating, and how these behavioral patterns lay the foundation for our futures. As the great Mahatma Gandhi stated, “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
We are able to learn, we just need to be open to learning. As a therapist, I look forward to helping my clients grow and challenge themselves. At times we all must live outside of our comfort zones.
